Pick-up in Lisbon
Your private driver-guide will pick you up in a luxury air-conditioned vehicle from your accommodation. You’ll depart Lisbon and start heading east towards the beautiful Alentejo region. Enjoy a scenic drive through rolling plains, vineyards, and olive groves while your driver guide tells you about the history behind some of the iconic destinations you’re about to visit.
Arrival in Évora – A UNESCO World Heritage City

Begin your tour in Évora, one of Portugal’s most historic and well-preserved medieval cities in the heart of the Alentejo region. Walk through the charming old town and feel like you’ve stepped back in time as you admire the ancient walls, well-preserved buildings, and cobbled streets. Visit notable attractions including:
- Temple of Diana – An impressive Roman temple dating back to the 1st century, showcasing Évora’s ancient past and connection to the Roman Empire.
- Évora Cathedral (Sé de Évora) – A mix of Romanesque and Gothic architecture, where you can climb to the rooftop terrace for panoramic city views.
- Chapel of Bones (Capela dos Ossos) – A fascinating yet eerie chapel decorated in its entirety with thousands of human bones. This is a one-of-a-kind attraction in Portugal and a thought-provoking experience about life and death.
- Praça do Giraldo – The city’s lively main square, lined with cafés and historic buildings. Explore the main square and people-watch as you relax with a coffee or traditional Portuguese pastry.
Traditional Alentejo Lunch
Enjoy a delicious regional meal at a traditional restaurant in Évora. Our tour designers can recommend and reserve one of Évora’s most exclusive and authentic restaurants based on your personal tastes. Choose between local dishes such as:
- Migas Alentejanas (a bread-based dish with garlic, olive oil, and pork).
- Açorda Alentejana (coriander-infused bread soup with a poached egg).
- Black pork (Porco Preto), a famous delicacy from Alentejo.
- Pair your meal with a local Alentejo wine.
Wine Tasting at a Renowned Alentejo Winery

After a hearty lunch, it is time to visit one of Alentejo’s renowned wineries to taste some of Portugal’s finest wines. Learn about the region’s unique winemaking traditions and sample a selection of rich reds and crisp whites. Wineries in Alentejo are often set in scenic vineyards, meaning you can enjoy stunning views while trying some exclusive wines.
Recommended wineries include:
- Herdade do Esporão – One of Alentejo’s most prestigious wineries, offering tastings in a scenic vineyard setting.
- Cartuxa Winery – Famous for its Pêra-Manca wine, deeply connected to Portugal’s history.
Almendres Cromlech

Before returning to Lisbon, you can take the short drive to the Almendres Cromlech, one of Europe’s largest megalithic monuments. This 7,000-year-old monument is older than Stonehenge and the Pyramids of Egypt and offers a fascinating insight into Portugal’s prehistoric past! Almendres Cromlech is entirely open and uncrowded, allowing you to walk among the stones and experience the site up close. The monument is surrounded by beautiful cork oak forests and rolling Alentejo countryside, making it a fantastic place to connect with history and nature before the end of your tour.
Scenic Drive Back to Lisbon
Relax and enjoy the landscapes of golden fields, vineyards, and cork oak forests as you return to Lisbon. Your driver guide will drop Évora and Alentejoyou back at your Lisbon accommodation, where you can relax after a long day exploring Évora and Alentejo.
