Lagos, Sagres & Cabo de São Vicente Day Tour Itinerary
Your private day tour begins with your driver guide collecting you from your Algarve accommodation or a location of your choosing. Sit back and relax as you begin your scenic drive westward along the Algarve coast.
Lagos

Arrive in Lagos and take some to stretch your legs as your guide takes you through the historic old town. Enjoy the cobbled streets and whitewashed buildings as you make your way to the Slave Market Museum (Mercado de Escravos). This museum was built on the site of what is believed to be Europe’s first slave market. See interactive exhibits and multimedia displays providing historical context on the Atlantic slave trade, archaeological finds, and first-person accounts from enslaved people of that time.
Next, your driver guide will take you to the beautiful Church of St. Anthony, famous for its Baroque architecture, featuring intricate wood carvings and stunning azulejos (blue tiles). The church is paired with a small museum displaying regional arts and artifacts. Right by the water, you’ll then check out the Forte da Ponta da Bandeira. This little fort was built to protect Lagos from pirates and invasions. You can walk across the drawbridge, explore inside, and enjoy fantastic views over the bay.
As your time in Lagos draws to a close, stop for a photo opportunity or coffee at one of the waterfront cafés at Lagos Marina. You will find casual bites and local pastries if you wish to refuel while enjoying great coastal views!
Sagres

The next destination on your day trip from the Algarve is the coastal town of Sagres. The town is steeped in history and is located at the very southwestern tip of mainland Europe. Your journey begins at Sagres Fortress, perched high on the cliffs above the ocean. Learn of the fort’s ties to Prince Henry the Navigator, a key figure from Portugal’s Age of Discoveries. Legend says Prince Henry founded a navigation school here, where sailors trained before setting off to explore the unknown world. Visiting the Sagres Fortress will give you a real sense of Portugal’s adventurous spirit and deep connection to the sea, and the spectacular views won’t hurt!
After a morning of exploring windswept cliffs and coastal forts, it’s time to slow down and savor some of the Algarve’s most iconic dishes with a relaxed lunch in Sagres. Your driver guide can choose a restaurant based on your tastes. Choose between a traditional taverna near the fort, a beachside café overlooking Praia da Mareta, or a modern seafood bistro serving freshly caught fish. You can try local delicacies, including grilled sardines, octopus salad, or cataplana de marisco, before you set off on the next location of your private tour.
Cabo de São Vicente (Cape St. Vincent)

Journey to the nearby Cabo de São Vicente, which still feels quite mystical as it was once believed to be the edge of the known world! Visit one of the most iconic spots on the Algarve Coast – the Lighthouse of Cabo de São Vicente. Its light beam is one of the strongest in Europe, visible from nearly 60 km (37 miles) out at sea. Walk around the lighthouse complex, which includes a small museum, souvenir shop, and maritime displays. Your guide will tell you about its history, maritime navigation, and the significance of this once “end of the known world.” If you haven’t had enough coastal views, this is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in Portugal and the perfect end to an action-filled day tour.
Return to the Algarve
After a full day of exploring the Western Algarve Coast, your scenic drive back to your Algarve accommodation begins. Reflect on your day as your evening is free to enjoy the local attractions around your hotel. If necessary, our driver guides can also recommend local attractions near your Algarve accommodation for you to enjoy, whether authentic Portuguese restaurants or vibrant bars.
